Some weeks ago the smartphone-producer HTC announced that there will be a Gingerbread (Android 2.3 ) OTA update for the “old” HTC Desire in July. Now, the end of July is here and the smart XDA-Member torres.sis just asked the HTC support, if there will be the update soon. (Click here to view the original XDA-Forumthread ). Here is what the support answered:

To make it short: The official Gingerbread update has already been released for unbranded devices. If you want to download it, just check your settings, telephone – info and check available updates. You should be able to download and install the update then (that’s what “Over The Air” actually means). For all others: hope that your providers increase their speed at releasing their updates.

Edit: Because some are complaining that they don’t have the update yet. There are basically 2 reasons for that. Either you don’t have an unbranded device or the OTA has just not reached you yet. OTAs usually need some time to get spread all over the world, be patient.
